Your Fingers Are Flying Everywhere (Fix This)

Your Fingers Are Flying Everywhere (Fix This)

Spot the difference? Same scale, same player—but one sounds clean and the other feels messy. The only thing that changed is how much the fingers move. Most of us lift our fingers way too far off the fretboard. It feels normal, but it kills control, speed, and accuracy. Try this: take a simple scale (G major is perfect) and play it really slowly, focusing on keeping every finger as close to the strings as possible—just 1–2 mm. It’s not about speed, it’s about control. Do this for a few minutes and you’ll feel it immediately—everything gets smoother, easier, cleaner. 👉 Put the phone down, pick up your guitar, try this for 5 minutes—and tell us how it feels.

Learn E A D Chords Fast

Learn E A D Chords Fast

Start learning guitar the right way—for free: https://justinguitar.com/learn-for-free These are some of the very first chords we learn in the Beginner Guitar Course: E, A, and D. They’re simple to get started with, and more importantly, they unlock hundreds of songs you actually want to play—not just exercises. Once these chords start feeling smooth (especially using tricks like the anchor finger), everything begins to click. Chord changes get faster, your sound gets cleaner, and playing real music feels way more achievable.

I decided to revisit and see what I can learn, and it turns out to be a perfect example of what writing in the minor key is all about. So today, we'll tear the song down to its bare elements and then reconstruct our own "original" piece of music that references the source material. Slide Guitar: Start in Standard Tuning

Slide Guitar: Start in Standard Tuning

Slide guitar doesn’t have to mean open tunings 👀 That’s Ariel Posen’s take—and we agree. If you’re just getting started, standard tuning might actually be the better place to begin. You already know the fretboard—so instead of learning everything from scratch, we can focus on what really matters: the technique. Because that’s the real challenge with slide…not the tuning. Once it feels good under your fingers, then explore open tunings for those unique voicings and sounds. Start simple. Build control. Then expand 🎸 🔥 The full masterclass is part of Blues Immersion (for students only) ⏳ Enrollment will open again (one day…) 👉 Join the waiting list now—no promises on dates, just first access when it’s back: justinguitar.com/blim

Why Does Emo Sound Like That?

Why Does Emo Sound Like That?

Support 12tone on Patreon to see my next video right now! https://www.patreon.com/12tonevideos More than any other genre, emo music, along with its close cousin pop-punk, captured the bizarre, directionless angst of adolescence in the early 21st century. Stuck in the shadow of global events we were too young to really understand, with new information technologies exploding our social networks, a stage of life that has always been confusing and disorienting was made even more so by the unique circumstances of the era. Emo spoke to that confusion in a unique way, making sense of the senselessness by embracing the duality of teenagehood, where everything is so important but nothing really matters, and that ethos can be found not just in its lyrics, but in its rhythms as well. Let's talk about half-time. Mix Lead & Rhythm Guitar with Simple 6ths

Mix Lead & Rhythm Guitar with Simple 6ths

Ever wondered how to mix little lead lines into your rhythm playing without overcomplicating things? 🧐 In this video, we explore one of the simplest and most musical ways to do it: intervals of 6ths. They’re easy to see on the fretboard, easy to move around, and perfect for adding melodic movement while keeping the groove strong. We start from a basic G chord, learn how 6ths are formed, and move the shape through different positions so you can instantly make your rhythm playing more expressive. You’ll also see how to pick them cleanly using a pick and fingers, and how to practice them in time with simple rhythms. Small idea. Big musical payoff! 👉 Follow to find more bite-sized lessons and hundreds of free guitar tutorials! Have fun exploring—and happy playing! 🎶

Combining Wrist and Forearm for Better Strumming

Combining Wrist and Forearm for Better Strumming

There are actually two main strumming motions on the guitar—and each one works best in different situations. For slower, general strumming, a relaxed forearm motion gives control and accuracy. But when the tempo goes up, many players naturally switch to more wrist movement, which makes fast strumming easier—but less precise. In this lesson, we look at: ✅ When forearm strumming works best ✅ When wrist strumming makes things easier ✅ Why neither is “better”—just different ✅ How combining both motions gives you speed and control 💡 Understanding how and when to use each motion can make your strumming feel smoother, more relaxed, and much more musical. 🎁 Grab the full course for free here: https://www.justinguitar.com/guitar-lessons/framing-the-double-strumming-technique-bg-2104?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=description&utm_campaign=double_strumming

Alternate Picking for Beginners: Pick Angle Tip 🎸

Should Beginners Try Barre Chords?

Should Beginners Try Barre Chords?

Most beginners are scared of barre chords—but trying them early isn’t a bad thing. ❌ You don’t need to master barre chords yet. ✅ You just need to feel what’s involved. Sometimes they’re easier than expected (especially with bigger hands). And if they’re hard, that’s not failure—it shows exactly what to work on next: • hand strength • thumb position • power chords • knowing the notes on the low strings 🙃 Trying “hard stuff” reveals the path forward. 🎸 Learn to play with me 👉 https://www.justinguitar.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=shorts&utm_campaign=barre_chords_beginners

There Is No “Strumming Pattern” for a Song

There Is No “Strumming Pattern” for a Song

Most songs don’t use a single strumming pattern. Great rhythm playing is about dynamics—knowing when to be quiet, when to build, and when to let the chorus lift. 🥱 If we strum the same way all the way through, things can get monotonous fast. 💤 ❌ The better question isn’t "what’s the strumming pattern for this song?" ✅ It’s: what’s the strumming pattern for this section? If you want to really get comfortable with this—and build rock-solid rhythm that works for real songs—check out Strumming SOS. 👉 https://www.justinguitar.com/store/strumming-sos?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=shorts&utm_campaign=strumming-sos&utm_content=dynamics_no_single_pattern
