Surrounded by enemies and challenged by internal divisions, the empire faced simultaneous campaigns across multiple fronts. In Mesopotamia, British-Indian forces advanced up the Tigris and Euphrates, capturing key cities like Amara and Nasiriyya in their push toward Baghdad.
