Two of the world's most powerful tech billionaires are locked in a legal battle over OpenAI - the company behind ChatGPT and a leading force in artificial intelligence. Elon Musk is suing the firm and its boss, Sam Altman - with whom he founded OpenAI in 2015 - alleging that they misled him by shifting the organisation away from its non-profit roots towards a for-profit model. OpenAI says Mr Musk is motivated by jealousy and regret for walking away from the company in 2018. It has also accused Mr Musk - who now owns a separate AI firm - of trying to derail one of his key rivals. This court battle takes place as a handful of tech giants are competing to reach the next stage of AI development: artificial general intelligence or AGI. That is loosely defined as AI that surpasses human intelligence. We speak to the BBC's AI correspondent Marc Cieslak about the case, its possible ramifications, and the future of AI.
