Just in from an outdoor shelter, eight one-day-old kittens begin their first full assessment. Each one is checked, weighed, and documented. At this stage, small differences matter. Their weight, their markings, even subtle changes in condition. It all helps us track their progress and step in quickly if something shifts. With a litter this large, care doesn’t stop here. They’ll be placed with a volunteer who specializes in neonatal kittens, where they’ll receive around-the-clock feeding and monitoring. Their mom will stay with them, continuing to care for them alongside that support. This is the work that happens right at the start, when they’re at their most fragile and every detail counts.
