I'm Tony Northrup, and I put Sony's two brand-new ultralight super-telephoto primes through real-world wildlife, birding, and portrait testing in New York City. Both weigh under 1kg (995g and 994g), both are G Master glass, and both cost significantly more than the 200-600mm zoom that covers the exact same focal lengths at the exact same apertures. So is the weight savings worth $1,600+ of your money? I tested it. What I cover in this video: 600mm f/6.3 prime vs. the Sony 200-600mm zoom at 600mm — the sharpness gap is not subtle 400mm f/4.5 prime vs. the 200-600mm at 400mm — a much closer fight than you'd expect, plus the 1.5-stop light advantage Why the zoom still wins for beginners and for those once-in-a-lifetime close encounters 600mm f/6.3 vs. the $14,000 600mm f/4 — bokeh, light gathering, and why serious shooters still carry the big one Real proof of what light gathering buys you: my moon shot where you can read the tail numbers on a United jet Teleconverter testing — Sony 1.4x and the Viltrox 2x on both primes. In transparency mode with a hearing test loaded on your iPhone, you'll pick out bird calls and directionality faster than with your naked ears. Sounds counterintuitive. It works. Bottom line: if you already know you shoot at 600mm, the 600mm f/6.3 is an incredible compromise of size, weight, and image quality. If you've never used a big telephoto, start with the 200-600mm zoom. And the number one thing that improves your wildlife photography isn't sharpness or bokeh — it's the number of hours you have a camera in your hands. These lenses get you out there.

I took the new Sigma 85mm F1.2 DG | Art out into New York City for a full portrait shoot: city-light bokeh balls in front of the skyline, environmental portraits with one of Manhattan's most in-demand tattoo artists, plus the sharpness, autofocus and bokeh testing you actually came here for. Here's the short version: at 905g it's the smallest and lightest AF 85mm F1.2 ever made — about 24% lighter than Canon's RF 85mm F1.2L and 22% lighter than Nikon's Z 85mm f/1.2 S — and it outresolved my Canon wide open, especially toward the corners. It's sharpest wide open, which is the tell of a genuinely high-end lens. And it's $1,599, which undercuts Sony's own 85mm F1.4 GM II by about $200 while giving you a full third of a stop more light. But is F1.2 actually worth it over the F1.4 you might already own? Going from f/1.4 to f/1.2 buys you 16% wider bokeh balls and 36% more surface area, plus nearly half a stop of cleaner ISO when you're balancing a subject against a city skyline. Whether that's worth the money — and the weight — is the whole video. Two caveats before you pre-order: Sony caps third-party lenses at 15 fps. If you shoot 30 or 120 fps bursts, you need the G Master. There's no Adobe lens correction profile at launch — check before you commit to a Lightroom workflow. The GoPro Situation is Worse Than You Think

GoPro just sold for $285 million. The last major American camera brand is now owned by a phone case company that pivoted into AI data center optics, and the buyer didn't exist until the day before the deal was announced. I went through the SEC filings, the merger agreement, and a decade of GoPro's financials to answer the questions that actually matter: Is the new Mission 1 Pro ILS dead on arrival? Will your existing GoPro still get firmware and cloud support? How much did investors lose? How much did Nick Woodman walk away with, and did he finally lose control of the company he founded? And what really happened with Markiplier's 8.5% stake and that sponsored camera review? There's also a twist I didn't expect when I started researching: AI data centers are the reason GoPro ran out of money, and AI data centers are the reason someone bought it.
