We Found Galaxies Too Old for the Universe

We Found Galaxies Too Old for the Universe

Learn More About Opera: https://opr.as/04-Opera-browser-pbsspacetime The James Webb Space Telescope found galaxies that are too ancient-looking for our young universe. You may have heard that, but it keeps finding them, and our recent efforts to solve this conundrum point in wildly different directions. Have we found galaxies older than the universe, or did we just learn something incredible about how galaxies form? Soyuz 1 was the first spaceflight which ended with the death of the crew, Vladimir Komarov was killed due to a malfunctioning parachute, which the last of several problems that plagued the flight. Beyond the death of its pilot, Soyuz 1 showed that the Soviet Union was now far behind the US in the space race and it never recovered. Vladimir was probably the best qualified cosmonaut for test flying the Soyuz, and yet there were problems that was simply not in a position to fix. Watch SpaceX Launch a Falcon Heavy for ViaSat-3 F3

Watch SpaceX Launch a Falcon Heavy for ViaSat-3 F3

SpaceX is targeting a Falcon Heavy launch of the ViaSat-3 F3 communications satellite from Launch Complex 39A at Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday, April 27, 2026 NET 10:21 a.m. EDT [14:21 UTC]. This is the 12th Falcon Heavy flight overall and the first since October 2024! It will deliver the Boeing-built ViaSat-3 F3 satellite to a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO). The satellite will use its electric propulsion to reach geostationary orbit over the Asia-Pacific region. It's reusing its two side boosters, one is on its 22nd flight; the other on its 2nd. Both are planned to return for landings at Landing Zones 2 and 40 (LZ-2 and LZ-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, which is always super fun to see. Want to support what I do? New Glenn's First Failure - What Do We Know?

New Glenn's First Failure - What Do We Know?

Initially flight 3 of New Glenn was looking like a massive success with Blue Origin pulling off an unprecedented successful reflight of a booster on the 3rd flight. But, the mission wasn't over, and the updates went quiet when we were expecting to hear news about the Satellite being deployed. Something went wrong with the second stage and the satellite ended up in an unusable orbit. And as of right now we don't even know if the second stage was deorbited, given the lack of response to this question I suspect it's still in orbit and will fall back in uncontrolled fashion in coming weeks. It has to assemble a rocket, decide on the mission and then make sure the other parts of the mission are ready for the flight. Earth’s Core Should Be Impossible. A New State of Matter Explains It.

Earth’s Core Should Be Impossible. A New State of Matter Explains It.

Check Out Eons: https://tinyurl.com/2srsyb69 And the full PBS Earth Month Playlist: https://tinyurl.com/ebkf6kx3 Is Earth’s core a solid or a liquid? Yes. The mysteries of our own planet’s interior have, in many ways, been harder to crack than those of the rest of the cosmos. We can send probes to the edge of the solar system, and the 42 billion light years to the cosmic horizon are largely transparent—a big enough telescope can see the most distant galaxy. But the 6400km to Earth’s center are both opaque to light and far beyond the reach of any conceivable drill. The best we can do for most of our planetary depths is to listen to the faint rumblings of distant earthquakes and then try to piece together how those seismic waves bounce around the interior. Humans Actually In Deep Space! Time for a Deep Space Update!

Finally back from my long trip and with a lot of new news to talk about, including the entire flight of Artemis II, I was there at the launch and I watched the landing live. I'm so delighted to see people paying attention to this flight around the moon! China also debuted two new rockets, one successful, the other not. Kinetica 2 is a huge upgrade from Kinetica 1, and Tianlong-3 is similarly large, both are supposed to be comparable to Falcon 9 in terms of launch capability and both have aspirations to recover booster stages. Watch Humans Fly Around The Moon! #artemis2

Artemis II is approaching its furthest point from Earth and its closest approach to the moon. The crew will technically break the altitude record set by Apollo 13 in 1972. At the closest approach they will be just 6,000 km [4,000 miles] above the surface. I won't stay live the whole time, but here's some notable milestones: 1:56 p.m. EDT (1756 UTC): Artemis II crew surpasses the Apollo 13 distance record 2:45 p.m. EDT (1845 UTC): Lunar observation period begins 6:47 p.m. EDT (2247 UTC): Predicted loss of communications as Artemis II heads behind the moon (roughly 40 minutes) 7:02 p.m. EDT (2302 UTC): Artemis II's closest approach to the Moon 7:05 p.m. EDT (2305 UTC): Artemis II reaches its furthest distance from Earth Want to support what I do? Artemis II: Was it Everything I Expected?

Artemis II: Was it Everything I Expected?

Trying to make a video from my hotel room covering my whole experience with the Artemis II launch, I was there as part of a YouTube sponsored event that pulled a diverse group of people together, unlike the media site or NASA Social event. I was the 'space dad' that told everyone what to expect. And then for the last few days I've been trying to get the time and energy to share some of this using my laptop, so, apologies in advance for the slapdash editing and dubious audio, I'll be back home soon. Check out the Universe in a Black Hole Merch at the Space Time Merch Store https://www.pbsspacetime.com/shop Kurt Gödel discovered a solution to General Relativity that allows time travel without any exotic physics, revealing that the theory doesn’t actually guarantee a consistent chain of cause and effect . His “Gödel universe” shows that under certain conditions, the structure of spacetime itself can loop back on itself—blurring the line between past and future and exposing a deep limitation in our understanding of reality.
